Hey Internet! Let’s talk about American Girls. Specifically, those of the doll variety. Because They. Are. Awesome.
Back story: When I was little (around four) I was given my very first American Girl Doll. Yes, I was way too young, but I knew how special my new Samantha doll was and I took extreme caution when holding her and playing with her. My parents read me all six of the Samantha books and I was totally hooked. For the next very many years I received a new doll and her set of books. I got Felicity and Kirsten and Molly (you know, all those retired dolls), and Kit and Josefina and Lindsey (the first ever Girl of the Year) and a doll that looked like me and a Bitty Baby and two grown up horses, one baby horse.
Yes. It is excessive. But it is also Awesome. They are all at my mom’s house hanging out with each other right now and I like to think that they are having a great time.
Fast forward twenty years from the moment I opened my favorite ever doll (who has COME OUT OF RETIREMENT). The Florida Mall here in Orlando recently opened an American Girl Doll Store and I knew I needed to go. So I dragged my roommate with me and we went to THE MOST AMAZING STORE IN THE HISTORY OF STORES. Even though they have retired most of my favorite dolls and even though I am a (kind-of) grown ass woman, I LOVE going to the American Girl Doll Store. It is so bright and happy – there are so many dolls and so many ballin’ accessories (I never got any official AG accessories – dolls were the Christmas game in my family – but I always (present tense) love looking through the catalog at the amazing things you can get for your dolls). There are pets and old-timey things and modern things and clothes that I would legitamatly wear today as a (kind-of) grown ass woman. It is full of magic and whimsy and happiness.
So when I went with my roommate, we obviously lost our ish. (It’s true she wasn’t totally pumped to go, but once we got there she was IN). And then I instagrammed a bunch of stuff.
I want to be grace. I want to be this doll. #AMERICANGIRLADVENTURES A photo posted by Liz (@liz_tippy) on
“Oh look! You have a a cheerleader… And a flyer…” #AMERICANGIRLADVENTURES A photo posted by Liz (@liz_tippy) on
Obviously my roommate brought her a-game to the AG Store (I mean, the flyer joke? She should do stand up. Legit).
Anyway, after wandering through the store, totally amazed by the breathtaking dioramas on display everywhere we turned, we saw it – the bistro. We knew where we had to go for lunch.
AND. EVERY. THING. WAS. AWESOME.
FIRST -Since we didn’t have our own dolls with us, WE GOT TO BORROW DOLLS TO SIT AT OUR TABLE AND EAT WITH US.
SECOND – It was beautiful!!
THIRD – They brought our dolls cups and saucers THAT WE GOT TO TAKE HOME WITH US!!! We also got to take the hair ties that were used as napkin rings.
FOURTH – They had a box of questions for us to ask each other while we waited for our food – this is one of my favorite things.
FIFTH – The food. We started with some amazng parmesean fries, then I had chicken fingers and mac and cheese and then I had a flowerpot of mousse (I got to keep the flower too) and the roommate had a trio of mini ice cream cones. I MEAN…
So basically AG is KILLING IT right now. Know who else is killing it? Grace. She is the AG Girl of the Year for 2015 and she is the bomb.com. She is an American girl who goes to France and runs HER OWN FREAKING BAKERY. I mean look at this:
So, Internet, did you ever have an AG doll? Do you have a favorite?
Hey Internet! I’m a little late with the whole posting-on-Tuesday thing, but I’m here so I’m counting it.
Today is the start of the new semester (well, technically it was yesterday but I only have Tuesday/Thursday classes so we are calling it today), so I am trying to start off the semester off well. (And by starting off the semester well I mean that I got home and took a 4 hour nap).
But more important than that, last night I got home from visiting the bestie in Denver for a long weekend. It was total magic. I only have a few pictures because I always get so caught up having fun that I forget to take pictures. It’s sad, but it’s also great to be so present that I forget Instagram exists. I think we could all use more of that in our lives, honestly.
Anyway, I went out to see the bestie in Miss Saigon. She played Kim, the main character and one of her all time dream roles, and she completely killed it. Literally. She killed it.
I went in only knowing three things about the show: 1) It’s about the Vietnam war. 2) At some point there is a helicopter. 3) it’s kind of a downer.
Guys, it was awesome. And so sad. I cried 3 separate times (which is really impressive if you take into account the fact that I am an emotionless robot) and ended up seeing the show twice because it was so good.
It was also just a great weekend I best friend bonding. We went shopping and got pedicures and watched girly movies and ate all the good food. I also got to see some more of my favorite people – I went to our friend Katrina’s house during the bestie’s Friday night show and we watched Tangled and ate Thai food. On Saturday my wonderful friend Megan and I went to a cute little french restaurant before seeing the show.
It was so great to catch up with so many of my favorite people and to see my bestie performing a role she is so passionate about.
I also got some much needed downtime to process things before the semester started.
I’m not gonna lie – it was REALLY hard going back to Orlando after such a great weekend. I’m still a little sad about it, but it was still totally worth all the sad panda feelings going on right now.
Where are some of your favorite people-visiting destinations Internet?
Hey Internet! So I’m here (better late than never) to share with you about my Christmas!
Things have been nutso around these parts since christmas – I went home for 4 days, worked for 4 days, my mom came down here for 4 days, I worked for 2 days and then I spent 2 days DYING. And now here we are! My goal for this next semester/year is to post 2-3 times a week – Tuesdays, Thursdays, and sometimes a bonus day on the weekends. So we will see how that goes.
But today I want to recap my Christmas visit home!
So, This day I woke up at 4 am so my lovely roommate could drive me to the airport. I was SUPER excited to be in the airport (See picture 1). I got into Chicago and spent the rest of the day with my mom doing last minute shopping and wrapping (not pictured) and then some of my best friends came over to hang out and eat pizza and watch me try desperately not to fall asleep after a super long day (see picture 3). It was magic and so nice to see these girls after so many months. I was so thankful they came out to see me on what was super short notice (totally my bad). They left a little after midnight and I hardcore passed out from exhaustion.
Bonus: Look at the shirt Old Roommate gave me! She knows me so well!
I didn’t take a lot of photos on day two, but it was great. I baked cookies with my mom, saw my second cousin and great aunt and then went to Wildfire (and AMAZING steakhouse) with my dad and step-mom. Then I wrapped some more presents and went to bed so the next day we could Christmas!
Day 3 was Christmas eve. My dad and step mom and I had coffee, coffee cake and opened presents (One thing I got was ALL the lip balm – very exciting). Then I got to see my friend Katie and her puppies!! It was so fun that I forgot to take pictures :(. We got some lunch and hung out at her apartment with the dogs for a while. It was so nice to see her.
After that she took me back to my dad’s and we headed out for dinner with the family. This was the first year we have eaten out on Christmas Eve, and we had a lot of fun!
After dinner I headed over to my mom’s parents’ house for Christmas.
Day 4 was Christmas!!! We had breakfast, opened presents and then had lunch. It was great to spend the day with my family before heading out that night to go back home. After I got home the roommates and I opened stockings. It was a magical Christmas, and even though I had to leave way too early, it was great to see all my family and so many friends. Not to mention that Santa was GOOD to me this year! In addition to a camera from my mom (it’s not a DSLR – I’m not ready to learn all that fancy-ness but it is way nicer than what I have been using (which in most cases has been my phone)), I also got a lot of other stuff. (just as a disclaimer, we go WAY overboard in my family. I am aware that this is crazy-pants.):
I think I’m going to highlight some of my favorites later this week, but for now lets just say I am one lucky lady.
What was your favorite part of Christmas?
It is November which means Christmas Season is upon us! (For all you Christmas-Doesn’t-Start-Til-After-Thanksgiving-Nay-Sayers (I am looking at you, oh roommate of mine (whom I LOVE)) I apologize, but I will NOT stifle my Christmas Spirit for twenty more days. It isn’t happening).
A little bit about Christmas in my household growing up: My mom LOVES Christmas. Like a crazy woman. Like a legit nutso. Like in High School I had to institute a “No Christmas until after Halloween” rule. So every November first for as long as I can remember we have started decorating for Christmas. This year I called my mom to wish her a happy Halloween, and she told me she spent the night handing out candy, listening to Christmas music, and putting up decorations. I was super bummed I missed it. (I was less bummed when she told me it had snowed that morning, but that is neither here nor there).
While we don’t have many decorations up in the apartment yet, I do have a strand of lights in my room, and it is getting me by. It also helps that Disney is fully decorated, so if I need some Christmas Spirit I can just head over to property to get my fix.
Last week I was lucky enough to go to a cast preview of the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights with my roommate. The Dancing Lights are my all time favorite thing Disney does all year, so I was super pumped to go to the preview. It was amazing. We got free cookies and hot cocoa, met Santa Goofy and just had and just walked around soaking in the Magic. I could try to explain the magic in words, but I’m going to do it in pictures and videos instead. (Sorry for the poor quality. It’s all from my phone).
Soak in the season, friends:
What is your favorite holiday tradition Internet?
HAPPY HALLOWEEN INTERNET!
I’m just sitting here, icing my face parts and watching It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.
I cannot believe it is Halloween already – it still feels like summer. Maybe because the high today was in the 80s. This year it has been hard for me to get into the Halloween spirit. For probably the first year in my life, I haven’t carved a pumpkin. I dressed up to celebrate Halloween with Mickey Mouse over a month ago (I went as Jess Day from New Girl and it was epic), and I doubt I will get into costume again tonight.
But don’t feel to sorry for me internet. I have a bottle of wine and a Hocus Pocus DVD with my name on it!! Of course, They don’t seem to have my favorite Halloween wine in Florida, but I found a substitute and I’m sure it will work fine.
Things are different this year, but I’m still excited to celebrate. We will make new traditions this year, and next year I will be sure to buy a pumpkin at some point.
I hope you find your Halloween is filled with magic and wonder Internet! What are some of your Halloween Traditions? Here is one of mine. Enjoy:
