A LONG Overdue Update

*Cue Mrs, Doubtfire Voice*

Well HELLO Internet

I know it has been forever and a half since I updated this here little blog, but life is busy and blogging just has not made the cut priorities-wise.

Things that have made the cut:

  1. Sleep
  2. Reading
  3. Wine
  4. Working of a crochet project from over a year ago
  5. Thinking about how I should PROBABLY start studying for my comprehensive exams in August
  6. Criminal Minds
  7.  Crying about how much I miss the cats (more on that in a second)
  8. Being in two weddings
  9. Day dreaming about sleep
  10. Buying Hamilton Chicago tickets… for next March…
  11. Starting my first set of Power Sheets!

So as you can see I have been VERY busy.

Since I wrote last, I finished my second semester of my master’s program and I moved to central Illinois for the summer to do an internship.  I’ve been loving it, but I miss Adorableezle and Winston and Ellie May like a crazy person. Seriously. Everyday she snaps me pictures of the cats, and everyday I send her pictures of me getting all weepy and saying “WHY DO YOU WANT ME TO CRY ALL THE TIME?!?!”  But I would cry more if I didn’t have my cat pictures… and now I’m sad again…

But other than the cat-related sadness, Central Illinois has been surprisingly great! The town I am in is a college town with a lot of fun things to do (ok… that may be a stretch… I mean lots of fun restaurants to try. And I do mean lots – the most restaurants per capita in the whole US). There is a cute Farmer’s Market on the weekends, and I am only a two and a half hour drive from home, a vast improvement over my normal two and a half hour flight.

This summer is also a study in adulting – It has been a while since I had a regular 40 hour a week job, and I am figuring out how to have a job and a life and how to be a Real Life Person instead of just a grad student (if you don’t understand the difference between the two, you probably aren’t in grad school). But, it is just for a summer, and I do have to go back to school in a month and a few days. As such, I have already starting having anxiety dreams about failing my comprehensive exams and showing up to my first day of teaching (I have my own class next semester! Holla!) with no syllabus and no lesson plans… So clearly I am having a very relaxing and not at all stressful summer.

Anyway, that has been my life recently. I would promise that you will be seeing me around these here internet parts more, but I don’t want to make promises I can’t keep. For now, here are some instagram highlights from my summer:

So there you have it, Internet! How have YOU been recently?

Galentine’s Day Recap

Hey Internet! I don’t know about you, but I have to work/school today and Monday’s got me being like this:

Tired Puppy

BUT I had a great Galentine’s/Valentine’s Day weekend and I wanted to pop in and share some pictures!

The weekend started at a BBQ restaurant with my carpool buddy on Friday. GUYS. This place. The food was AMAZING. ANDPLUSALSO? THERE WAS A CAT! AND the cat looked so much like Binx. I called him Binx II, and he crawled right into my lap and I maybe almost cried. Pictures:

Binx II DIS FOOD DOE Love at first sight

If you are ever in the area, the place is called Yellow Dog Eats and it is the best.

After lunch I went home and Adorabeezle and I finished Broadchurch (its a BBC crime series and its AMAZING. Go watch it on Netflix. Right now.)

Also, this happened. It’s a common occurrence, really, but I can never get over the cuteness:

Cat Love

Then I turned in for the night and spent some time reading Make it Happen. I’ve been reading this for a little over a month now, and it has been SO GOOD for my heart. I’ve been really savoring it and taking copious notes. So. Much. Goodness.

Make it Happen

Then Saturday was a sleep in and be productive kind of day. It seems weird, but I cherish the days I am free enough to really clean the kitchen. Just doing laundry and getting all the dishes done and organizing things. I LIVE for that on the weekends… Does this mean I’m officially a grown up? Maybe. Also? I cleaned ALL of my make up brushes. That may seem like small potatoes to you if you have your life together, but this was a big deal for me. I’m not going to tell you how long it’s been since I’ve done this, because I want you to think I’m a fancy person who isn’t living in filth. Just go with it.

A Thing of Beauty

After the productiveness, Adorabeezle came home from work and we hit up EPCOT for Galentine’s Day. (If you don’t know what Galentine’s Day is you need to watch Parks and Rec ASAP!!!)

What is Galentine's Day
The Best Day of the Year

We grabbed some fish and chips (I ate the fish. Adorabeezle ate the chips). and then we headed to France where we waited 20 minutes in line for a cocktail and then 20 minutes in line for the patisserie. We regret nothing.Fish and Chips Drank Drankin in EPCOTRaspberry Mousse

The drink was a specialty orange passion fruit slushie, that came in a “souvenir glass,” which I thought was kind of silly since it was just a sphere and made my drink cost three extra dollars, but it was delicious and I have NO REGRETS.

After Epcot, we came home and I treated myself to a nice lush bath bomb bath complete with Christmas lights, candles, poor girl sangria (wine with a splash of oj and some cut up oranges) a touch of chocolate and a episode of Fixer Upper on my Kindle.

Bath of Champions

Sunday was church and then ALL THE ERRANDS. I did some cooking for the week and finished some apartment projects I’ve been putting off. I also put together a breathtaking doughnut diorama. Because I don’t play around when it comes to holidays or doughnuts.

Breathtaking Doughnut Diorama

The rest of the night was spent with netflix and putting that souvenir glass to good use:

Succulent globe succulent

(yes the succulent is fake – who do you think I am? a real grown up person?) But I’m fairly certain the moss I bought from Joann’s is real… which kind of freaked me out…

Anyway, that was my Galentine’s weekend, Internet. How was yours?

I Was Supposed to Write a Post for Today, but Then I Went to a Mexican Restaurant

Hey Internet! I was supposed to write a post for today. But instead I went out to eat with my roommate (heretofore referred to as Adorabeezle Winterpop…per her own request) and her co-workers. And then I did homework.

It was a lot of fun and we had good food and I tried to get Adorabeezle Winterpop to eat a taco… I failed…. That is another post for another day (Working Title: Adorabeezle Winterpop’s Eating Habits are Killing My Soul).

After the Mexican food (and Adorabeezle Winterpop’s salad) we got Twistee Treat and I had an ice cream cone. Adorabeezle Winterpop had a waffle taco, which I claim is not the same thing as a taco and she says is close enough.

Then we came home, and didn’t go to bed. Instead I went into a tizzy about school and we googled the Benedict Cumberbatch name generator. So you know, the usual.

On the bright side, I did have a great hair-night.

It’s a big bun type of evening.

So, Internet, what random things have you been up to?

The Great Roommate Date!

Hey Internet! I mean to write a post about something else, but I am in a food coma and am just going to tell you about last night.

Sunday was my roommate’s one-year anniversary with the Disney company, which is kind of a big deal. We went to Boma Flavors of Africa to celebrate last night and It. Was. Amazing.  Boma is a buffet of magic and wonder and condiments and blueberry moscow mules and everything was wonderful. I came home in a food coma, but I also came home with pictures (not pictures of the food because I am not good at plating and it would not look as delicious as it was). But I did get pictures of the lovely ladies I do life with. And I am putting their pictures on the internet without asking them because it is late and they are sensible and in bed. (Holla roomies! if this ain’t ok let me know!) Look how pretty we are:

The Great Roommate Date

This is as close as I get to being a fashion blogger y’all – sneaking in an #ootd post between my two pretty roommates – look at them sitting on those rocks! (does rocks doe) Also that purse cost me $18 in Denver and is basically my favorite thing ever.

Anyway, Happy Anniversary Roommate! I think I have digested my food enough to go to bed – lots of math to do tomorrow!!

Just an American Girl

Hey Internet! Let’s talk about American Girls. Specifically, those of the doll variety. Because They. Are. Awesome.

Back story: When I was little (around four) I was given my very first American Girl Doll. Yes, I was way too young, but I knew how special my new Samantha doll was and I took extreme caution when holding her and playing with her. My parents read me all six of the Samantha books and I was totally hooked. For the next very many years I received a new doll and her set of books. I got Felicity and Kirsten and Molly (you know, all those retired dolls), and Kit and Josefina and Lindsey (the first ever Girl of the Year) and a doll that looked like me and a Bitty Baby and two grown up horses, one baby horse.

Yes. It is excessive. But it is also Awesome. They are all at my mom’s house hanging out with each other right now and I like to think that they are having a great time.

Fast forward twenty years from the moment I opened my favorite ever doll (who has COME OUT OF RETIREMENT). The Florida Mall here in Orlando recently opened an American Girl Doll Store and I knew I needed to go. So I dragged my roommate with me and we went to THE MOST AMAZING STORE IN THE HISTORY OF STORES. Even though they have retired most of my favorite dolls and even though I am a (kind-of) grown ass woman, I LOVE going to the American Girl Doll Store. It is so bright and happy – there are so many dolls and so many ballin’ accessories (I never got any official AG accessories – dolls were the Christmas game in my family – but I always (present tense) love looking through the catalog at the amazing things you can get for your dolls). There are pets and old-timey things and modern things and clothes that I would legitamatly wear today as a (kind-of) grown ass woman. It is full of magic and whimsy and happiness.

So when I went with my roommate, we obviously lost our ish. (It’s true she wasn’t totally pumped to go, but once we got there she was IN). And then I instagrammed a bunch of stuff.

“Oh look! You have a a cheerleader… And a flyer…” #AMERICANGIRLADVENTURES A photo posted by Liz (@liz_tippy) on

Obviously my roommate brought her a-game to the AG Store (I mean, the flyer joke? She should do stand up. Legit).

Anyway, after wandering through the store, totally amazed by the breathtaking dioramas on display everywhere we turned, we saw it – the bistro. We knew where we had to go for lunch.

FIRST -Since we didn’t have our own dolls with us, WE GOT TO BORROW DOLLS TO SIT AT OUR TABLE AND EAT WITH US.

FOURTH – They had a box of questions for us to ask each other while we waited for our food – this is one of my favorite things.

FIFTH – The food. We started with some amazng parmesean fries, then I had chicken fingers and mac and cheese and then I had a flowerpot of mousse (I got to keep the flower too) and the roommate had a trio of mini ice cream cones. I MEAN…

So basically AG is KILLING IT right now. Know who else is killing it? Grace. She is the AG Girl of the Year for 2015 and she is the bomb.com. She is an American girl who goes to France and runs HER OWN FREAKING BAKERY. I mean look at this:
