Hey Internet! How goes it? Just dropping by to do a quick birthday weekend recap… from two weekends ago… I may not be good at this… Anyway, two weeks ago I turned 27… I’m officially in my late twenties and it may possibly be freaking me out a bit… To celebrate I had a fun filled weekend of shopping and eating and dranking.
Sunday Adorableezle Winterpop and I went shopping – we hit up Charming Charlie’s and Home Goods and Ulta – I got myself some fun birthday treats and it was a fun morning. On the way home we grabbed some Pei Wei and then my friend from high school and college came up from Sarasota to visit! We spent the night at Trader Sam’s – my favorite bar on Disney property. Its a tiki bar with a lot of fun themeing and special effects. I maybe forgot to take pictures, but here are some instagram pictures from my last trip to Trader Sam’s:
Sunday morning a small group of us got together and got breakfast at The Wave… of American Flavors at the Contemporary Resort . They have a great breakfast buffet with refillable mimosas. I basically ate All. The. Cheesy Grits. After breakfast we headed over to Epcot to ride Ellen’s Universe of Energy one last time before it closed on the 13th. It was bittersweet. The we rode the Gran Fiesta Tour and got a birthday margarita. Here is a quick Snapchat snapshot of the day:
And also a pretty group picture:
After that we were all feeling pretty tired, so we went our separate ways and I took a really nice birthday nap… did I mention I may be old?
To cap off the weekend Adorabeezle and I got dinner at The California Grill, also at the Contemporary Resort. I hadn’t been to California Grill since 2010, but it was just as AMAZING as I remembered it. I mean…
It was a really great weekend, and I’m excited to see what 27 has in store!
Hey Internet! I don’t know about you, but I have to work/school today and Monday’s got me being like this:
BUT I had a great Galentine’s/Valentine’s Day weekend and I wanted to pop in and share some pictures!
The weekend started at a BBQ restaurant with my carpool buddy on Friday. GUYS. This place. The food was AMAZING. ANDPLUSALSO? THERE WAS A CAT! AND the cat looked so much like Binx. I called him Binx II, and he crawled right into my lap and I maybe almost cried. Pictures:
If you are ever in the area, the place is called Yellow Dog Eats and it is the best.
After lunch I went home and Adorabeezle and I finished Broadchurch (its a BBC crime series and its AMAZING. Go watch it on Netflix. Right now.)
Also, this happened. It’s a common occurrence, really, but I can never get over the cuteness:
Then I turned in for the night and spent some time reading Make it Happen. I’ve been reading this for a little over a month now, and it has been SO GOOD for my heart. I’ve been really savoring it and taking copious notes. So. Much. Goodness.
Then Saturday was a sleep in and be productive kind of day. It seems weird, but I cherish the days I am free enough to really clean the kitchen. Just doing laundry and getting all the dishes done and organizing things. I LIVE for that on the weekends… Does this mean I’m officially a grown up? Maybe. Also? I cleaned ALL of my make up brushes. That may seem like small potatoes to you if you have your life together, but this was a big deal for me. I’m not going to tell you how long it’s been since I’ve done this, because I want you to think I’m a fancy person who isn’t living in filth. Just go with it.
After the productiveness, Adorabeezle came home from work and we hit up EPCOT for Galentine’s Day. (If you don’t know what Galentine’s Day is you need to watch Parks and Rec ASAP!!!)
We grabbed some fish and chips (I ate the fish. Adorabeezle ate the chips). and then we headed to France where we waited 20 minutes in line for a cocktail and then 20 minutes in line for the patisserie. We regret nothing.
The drink was a specialty orange passion fruit slushie, that came in a “souvenir glass,” which I thought was kind of silly since it was just a sphere and made my drink cost three extra dollars, but it was delicious and I have NO REGRETS.
After Epcot, we came home and I treated myself to a nice lush bath bomb bath complete with Christmas lights, candles, poor girl sangria (wine with a splash of oj and some cut up oranges) a touch of chocolate and a episode of Fixer Upper on my Kindle.
Sunday was church and then ALL THE ERRANDS. I did some cooking for the week and finished some apartment projects I’ve been putting off. I also put together a breathtaking doughnut diorama. Because I don’t play around when it comes to holidays or doughnuts.
The rest of the night was spent with netflix and putting that souvenir glass to good use:
(yes the succulent is fake – who do you think I am? a real grown up person?) But I’m fairly certain the moss I bought from Joann’s is real… which kind of freaked me out…
Anyway, that was my Galentine’s weekend, Internet. How was yours?
I hope you are having a fantastic week thus far! After Adorabeezle’s amazing playlist post yesterday, I decided to join you today with the backstory of what has become maybe the most important song of the Titanic (our apartment is name the Titanic, if you are new to these parts).
Once upon a time, during the fall semester of 2014, life was hard. I had classes every Monday – Thursday and was working for the Mouse Friday-Sunday, which means I had zero days off. Zero. Days. Off. It was hard and I was very tired. my Monday/Wednesday class was a 6-8 evening class and I had to be back on campus (an hour+ away) the next mornings at 7. Needless to say, some days the motivation was lacking.
On one such Monday I was having a really hard time getting myself to my evening class. I was tired and was in the middle of doing laundry and just was not having it. As I tend to do, I tried to pass off the “should-I-go-should-I-not?” question on Adorabeezle. I kept asking her what she would do if she we me, and to answer she broke into song:
“What would you do if your son was at home?
Crying all alone on the bedroom floor –
‘Cuz he’s hungry,
And the only way to feed him is to
Sleep with a man for a little bit of money.
And his daddy’s gone –
Somewhere smokin’ rock now –
In and out of lockdown.
I ain’t got a job now.
So for you this is just a good time, but for me this is what I call life.”
To me the message was clear: “You’re right. I should go.”
So I put on real pants and packed a dinner and was getting ready to leave when Adorabeezle realized I was about to abandon her for the rest of the evening. She told me that maybe she had sung too soon, and she didn’t really want me to leave. Again, she turned to song:
“Oh baby you – you got what I NEEEED!”
… I didn’t go to class that night, Internet. The power of song is REAL.
After that night, City High’s “What Would You Do” kind of became our anthem. We found ourselves constantly singing it to motivate ourselves. She added it to my Rock Dem Finals Playlist (one of us will share this GEM sometime soon). We even adapted it to more closely fit our lives***:
***(This makes the most sense if you know that I work in research)
Do you and your friends have any special songs?

Hi guys, it’s me again, Adorabeezle Winterpop! Today I want to talk about one of my hobbies: baking!
I’m not very good at cooking, but I love to bake. It’s how I dealt with stress during my senior year of college. And of course you need music while baking, so here is my (dessert specific) baking playlist!
Cookies are made for one of two reasons: either you are super happy, and yeah cookies! or you need to eat your feelings. But we’re not going to focus on those, because let’s face it, if you’re like me that dough is skipping the oven and going straight to your mouth.
For good mood cookies, try:
“Best Day of My Life” – American Authors
“Put Your Records On” – Corrine Bailey Rae
“Love on Top” – Beyonce
“Thrift Shop” – Macklemore and Ryan Lewis
“Shake It Off” -Taylor Swift
Brownies are indulgent, chocolate-ly goodness. They are fudge-y and sometimes they have frosting and they’re everything that’s good in the world. This is where your guilty pleasure jam comes in, whatever it may be.
So for me and Liz, it’s these gems:
“Buy You a Drank” – T-Pain
“Uptown Funk” – Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars
“What Would You Do?” – City High
Literally anything by N*SYNC
Pies are a wholesome and all-American dessert. Do you know what else is a wholesome and all-American dessert? Taylor Swift. My girl is (*Chris Traeger voice*) literally the best choice when baking a pie.
Are you baking a pie for your Grandma? Or for the aesthetic of putting it on your windowsill to cool like a 1950s lady? That’s an “Our Song” pie.
But maybe it’s an angry, revenge pie a la Sweeny Todd (side note: I’ve never seen Sweeny Todd because I’m scared). That’s a “Bad Blood” pie. If you can’t make up your mind whether your pie is sweet as sugar or just sugar covering up poison, play “Blank Space” and you’ll be fine.
Going into the unknown requires courage! Especially when the unknown is a new dessert, and for that you need music that inspires confidence. For this list we’re going straight to the Mouse.
“I’ll Make a Man Out of You” – Mulan
This one has a proven track record! I made cookie brownies for the first time listening to this and not only did they turn out great, but I felt like a badass the entire time.
The Pirates of the Caribbean theme
Literally nothing is impossible when this plays in the background. I just because the ruler of a small European nation using only chocolate mouse.
“Go the Distance” – Hercules
Can you feel it? This song wants you to succeed! It says, “I believe in you and your frosting skills!”
What about you guys? Do you like to listen to music when you bake?
*** A note from Liz: Doesn’t Adorabeezle makes the BEST playlists?! The playlist she made me for finals last fall was basically responsible for me getting an A in Calc III. Also, I’m gonna be making this girl bake WAY MORE PIES from here on out!
Surprise, Internet! It’s Adorabeezle Winterpop! Liz asked me to do a guest spot on her blog, so here I am! In my blogging days I was a fashion and beauty writer, but I don’t do that anymore. It was quite exhausting to be honest. So I’ll be here from time to time talking about… stuff? I don’t know yet. We’ll figure that out. I’d thought I start with Liz’s (In)Frequently Asked Questions. Here we go!
Q: What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
A: Would I be really boring if I said flurries? I like candy all up in my ice cream.
Q: If you were a tree what kind of tree would you be?
A: Sugar Maple. You probably didn’t know this, but I come from a line of maple syrup producers and I eat waffles at least twice a week.
Q: What is your favorite show to marathon?
A: I think it’s a tie between Law & Order: SVU and Criminal Minds
Q: What is your guilty pleasure jam?
A: This is hard because “guilty pleasure” implies that there’s a certain amount of embarrassment implied, and I am not ashamed of my music. However, this one requires more explanation:
Q: What is your favorite jam in terms of preserves?
A: Grape. There is only grape.
Q: Are you pro-daylight-savings-time?
A: I like the one where you get more sleep.
Q: What IS it with Michelle Pfeiffer?
A: I DON’T KNOW! I REALLY DON’T UNDERSTAND IT. WHY ARE THEY SO OBSESSED WITH HER??
Q: What are your top three crafting activities?
A: Um, planning to craft, never actually crafting, waiting for Liz to craft something for me.
Q: If you were a baked good, what would you be?
A: Cookies are wonderful. I am wonderful. Therefore I am a cookie.
So that’s my extremely brief introduction. See you soon, Internet!
***A note from Liz: Hey Internet aren’t you SO EXCITED to meet Adorabeezle. Fun fact: she actually wrote most of these questions in the first place.***
