Christmas Confessions

This year will be different I said.

This year the holidays won’t get away from me.

This year I will get my Christmas shopping done early and I will WRAP MY PRESENTS LIKE A CLASSY LADY.

This year I will bake Christmas cookies and candies and tea rings and I will give them to people with their gifts.

This year I will send Christmas cards.

This year I will watch ALL THE CHRISTMAS MOVIES and listen to ALL THE CHRISTMAS MUSIC and everything will be Christmas magic and unicorns!

That is what I said, because I forgot.   I forgot I’m not in control.

I forgot that I cannot will myself to be not busy.

I forgot that I do not have the ability to slow time.

As I write this I am stuffing a quick lunch in my face before taking a quick shower and then quickly getting ready for a day of Christmas concerts and parties.

I am posting it from my phone because the simple act of posting it on my computer seems to daunting.

I still have some presents to buy and all of my presents need wrapping.

I have a Christmas party coming up that still needs planning.

I have baked exactly zero batches of Christmas cookies.

I have not sent a single Christmas card.

I am watching the first few scenes of Love Actually in between errands and showers and concerts because if I don’t I’m not sure I will have time to watch it in full.

This year is not going to be all that different.

This year will be just as busy (if not busier) than years past.

This year I will scramble to get all my Christmas stuff done.

But this year will be full of Christmas magic. (And possibly a few unicorns).

Because Christmas is that most wonderful time of the year when, even though you are so busy you can barely see straight, everything truly feels merry and bright.

I’m going to try to keep up with the blogging this holiday season, but I make no promises.

I’m going to spend these next few weeks soaking up as much time as I can with my friends, family, and a little someone I like to call Buddy the Elf.

I hope you are doing the same.   Merry Christmas Internet.

Now go kiss a unicorn under the mistletoe.
